IEEE 802.11y-2008 is an amendment to the IEEE 802.11-2007 standard that will enable high powered Wi-Fi equipment to operate on a co-primary basis in the 3650 to 3700 MHz band in the United States, except when near a grandfathered satellite earth station. [1] It was approved for publication by the IEEE on September 26th, 2008. This is for the full 50 MHz of the 3650 3700 GHz band. Now is this in development, if so how long will it take before it's ready for use? Thanks Kobe see this report http://cim.pennnet.com/display_article/349469/27/ARTCL/none/none/1/...
I don't know which companies are developing the technology which I assume will be used for high powered/long range WiFi as a fixed broadband wireless alternative. Lightly licensed (fixed) WiMAX uses this band in the U.S.
The 3650-3700 MHz band is a home to many satellite TV channels which are downlinked using the lower C-band. This causes not only serious problem but stoppage of the channel itself. Most countries are not happy with that. This is preventing the use of lower C-band in many countries.
