What is the Diference between Fixed and Mobile Wimax ?

Thanks in Advance!!!

.16e is an amendment to .16d, which adds mobility and several other featurs to the standard like addition of service class ertPS, and use of SOFDMA and MIMO instead of OFDMA.

However, this question could raise a nice topic for discussion. Will "e" replace "d"? There is already numerous studies and products using d, and although e is supposed to have interoperability, however, in some cases d might be sufficient for a network environment such as fixed or point-to-point networks. It almost looks like 802.11 infrastructure versus mesh mode of operation.

Any ideas?

Yes, got some idea, but as per functionality what is the difference ? ..

Any ideas?

I would suggest you first do a web search on those terms and also check the WiMAX Forum and IEEE 802.16 Wireless MAN web sites. You will be able to read about the differences after some web browsing.

The 802.16e is an excellent technology having following advantages over 16d:

- MIMO A (STC - space time coding) for increasing coverage
- MIMO B (SM - spatial Multiplexing) for increasing capacity
- Beamforming - Improved Link Budget
- Flexible Frequency Reuse Schemes b/c of PUSC and AMC modes.

In terms of complexity, 16e deployment is far more complex compared to 16d deployment. 16e systems requires ASN, AAA and Home Agent as a part of the core network to offer basic service.

In terms of cost, the 16e is network is approximately 3 to 4 times the cost of 16d Networks.

In terms of capacity, 16d system offer more capacity than 16e network for fixed services.

16d is ideal for deployment by the operators wiling to offer dual play services (Data and Voice) in fixed/nomadic mode, fast ROI, Business Services like L2/L3 VPN. The technology is more mature as compared to 16e, is capable of offering services like DSL over Wireless for residential customers.

16e is good for operators planning to target mass market and have plans to offer mobility in future. Infact, the real mobility will be offered by 16m systems. Mobile wimax will take a while to mature to offer mobility services like currently 3G/HSPDA networks.

Hope it helps .... !
