As the founder and Technical Director of Data Communications Technology (DCT), a technical consulting firm started in March 1983, Alan J Weissberger specializes in telecommunications standards and their implementation. His clients have included network providers (AT&T, NTT, Pacific Bell, US West, Entel and CTC in Chile, Telkom South Africa, Moroccan PTT, others), equipment and semiconductor manufacturers (many), and large end users. In 1995 and 1996 Alan was the principal architect for the European Commission’s multi-service, multi-country ATM network – the largest private network in Europe (that network has now evolved into Gig Ethernet over CWDM). In 2000-2001, he was Ciena’s lead ITU-T delegate, contributing to the standardization of the optical control plane in SG13 and SG15. From 2003-2005, Alan represented NEC Corp in several OASIS TCs dealing with Web Services, while also attending the Global Grid Forum and the Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) as a principal member.

Intel in talks with India's ITI for joint ventures

Intel is planning to participate in bids invited by Indian state-owned telecom equipment maker ITI Ltd to set up joint ventures, the Business Standard reported on Nov 6th.

ITI, according to the bid proposals, intends to be a minority partner in the proposed JVs with a 26 per cent stake. The JV partner should be able to invest at least Rs 60 crore to be able to qualify. Comcast Launches Mobile WiMAX in Philadelphia while Clearwire expands sales operation there

Comcast announced today that its "4G" wireless service was now available in Philadelphia.

"As Comcast's hometown, Philadelphia is one of the most technologically progressive cities on the East Coast. Having the first and only 4G service bundled with some of the nation's fastest Internet speeds is evidence to that fact," said Eric Schaefer, senior vice president of marketing for Comcast's Freedom region.

CLEAR now available in Chicago + Sprint adds 5 new WiMAX markets

Clearwire Corp. started selling its CLEAR WiMAX service in Chicago on November 1st at its retail stores, as well as Best Buy and RadioShack. The network stretches from Gary to Rockford, although service initially won't be available everywhere. To date, it's the largest WiMAX footprint for CLEAR.

ETSI's standardization of Reconfigurable Radio Systems gets underway
