In today's podcast, we get CNET News writer Tom Krazit in the studio to talk about yesterday's news that AT&T will finally allow voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) applications to run on its network. This opens up the field for apps from Vonage and Skype to actually compete with AT&T's business, and possibly bring Google's Voice service to Apple's iPhone.

The U.S. government plans to propose broad new rules Monday that would force Internet providers to treat all Web traffic equally, seeking to give consumers greater freedom to use their computers or cellphones to enjoy videos, music and other legal services that hog bandwidth.
The move would make good on a campaign promise to Silicon Valley supporters like Google Inc. from President Barack Obama, but will trigger a battle with phone and cable companies like AT&T Inc. and Comcast Corp., which…

As the DTV time grew near, no more analogue, I decided to rough it, and go all the way IP. Knowing the day was near that we wont really need, or have to depend on broadcast TV, to entertain ourselves.
On demand is where we are headed, I found just about everything you would have on satellite, or cable, right here on IP.
With 4G fixing to light up the air in 80 plus city's in the next year, I found a free program I have to share with my wimax friends. With mobility on the way, we will be the wi…

Would you have bet one year ago that the cable giant known as comcast, would be serving up 4G mobile broadband, before, well anyone really. Except Clear, Sprint. But before the AT&Ts Verizon, T mobile. and the rest. This wimax thing is really starting to take shape. I hope this news is what Clear needs to start there rapid deployments.

With yet another launch of clear services in Atlanta, and the aggressive marketing of apple, with there price dropping of the iphone,in the same 48 hours of the palm pre launch. There just wanting to keep subscribers under contract. As there subscriber base were coming up for renewal, and to take the steam out of sprint sales, as well as to keep there base from shifting carriers. This is aggressive marketing.
I find most people use there Iphones for data , like 80% data and 20% phone and somewhe…

I think we can all agree that the IPhone made a statement, AT&T's turn to say can you hear me now. Two issues that caused Sprint problems, was first that 100 dollar all you can eat plan, and second, the launch of the IPhone, in and around that same time frame. Consumers said if I'm going to pay 100 dollars, I'm going to go first class, and the subscriber base shifted carriers. That ripple effect is being felt through out the telco industry. Consumers don't care what the back end looks like.…

Wimax could provide cable with bandwidth during an outage, or storm damage. Pole or ground mount radios, wimax and wifi or? would sense no RF and wimax changes it's mode of operation to that of cable provider, until RF is restored. Sending voice, data, video, Yes TV to,through the cable lines, which makes the next piece of equipment RF hot. there's a little bandwidth issue, that will be worked out in time. I've said in my last two blogs, the possibilities are endless. Cable it's your time to shi…

Thus far, the biggest news since the Clearwire Sprint merge. Is this Clear Cisco partnership, which may well be the biggest news yet for wimax. In my last blog tittled listen up comcast get those wires wireless, i wrote about Cisco, and Comcast being able to bring lightning fast wifi to the home. Now enter Clear Comcast and Cisco. Witch is the real partnership. With these three giants invested in 4G, You can expect big news for the wimax ecospace. I think they got AT&T and Verizon;s attentio…

First off you have the fastest speed available as far as wires go. Second you invested in the Clear merger. To be able to sell wireless in your own brand. Third you can offer wireless to the home greener with faster speeds than any wireless provider, Forth you already have the infrastructure. So why aren't you using this resource. Docsis 3.0 is capable of 160 mbps, but are throttled down to 50.mbps. Equipment is available that is made for cable co"s to provide wifi to the home. In time you can e…

I've blogged a piece called consumers will cut the wires on wimax360 where I wrote about how consumers could save money on services such as sat radio, as well as other services. Look I'm not trying to hurt business, my honesty is brutal, and Sirius, XM you guys offer a awesome service. However technology is in hyper drive right now. I've been seeing Internet content moving towards mobility for sometime now being made ready for wireless,or portability.I don't think you have to worry about this tom…

Education will prove to be the single most important aspect of tomorrow's technology's, Being bred right here in our own back yard. School districts are spending to much money on software, and applications, Districts need to look at innovation in this space from end to end. Starting with teachers, and the criteria in which they are hired, In other words hire teachers with back ground in IT, or IP or networking etc. Let them design the applications, the networking, If a teacher is excelling in th…

Do city's know they don't need money to deploy wireless broadband. Quick math what are your data cost per mo. now what are your wired phones per mo. Total those numbers. If it's a huge city, they may be spending 200.000 a mo. If you take there existing infrastructure, public safety towers, there's a savings.I would be willing to bet I could find a way to cut that number in half to 100.000 a month. Now city's can you stand a savings of 1.2 mil a year. And that's how you cant afford not to deploy…

I've written before about this. Could this band be controlled by GPS to stay out of exclusions zones. The reason these cpe's are such low power is they are considered mobile or portable. So if they are controlled to stay out of these zones. Could they be made more powerful. If so that will make this band more ready for prime time.witch will excellerate the deployments the final mile. I think this…

With all the unsettledness in new spectrum, devices, profiles, multi mode, multi band, one thing is for sure, devices will all have wifi. And since these devices will hand off to the stronger network, home broadband wireless. It only makes since to exploit this direction further. When you buy a device, and use it now.Anything wifi enabled. And with the cost of high power, 1000mw radios like ubiquiti bullet, nano, or pico 89 usd. the expense no longer exists. To build out a roof top hop network.…

Looks like Kevin Martin will be followed by Obama-Biden tech advisor Julius Genachowski as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission.
A source close to the transition team told the Wall Street Journal that President-elect Barack Obama has picked Genachowski for the FCC job; observers also had him on the short list for the new chief technology officer post Obama plans, but Genachowski’s experience as chief counsel to Clinton era FCC Chairman Reed Hundt seems to have tilted the choice in…
